"Head-Heart-Hands-Health"
4-H Youth Development is a nonformal educational youth program, conducted by the University of California Cooperative Extension.
The purpose of 4-H Youth Development is to help diverse young people discover and develop their potential and grow into competent, contributing, and caring citizens. Learn by doing activities, youth-adult partnerships, and research-based educational programs help young people enhance their leadership abilities and develop a wide range of other life skills.
Glenn County maintains a large 4-H program, which includes 8 clubs, 125 adult volunteers and over 400 youth. All 4-H leaders are volunteers who give their time to provide leadership and training to youth ranging in age from 5 to 18. The 4-H year is July 1st to June 30th. Members showcase their talents at the Glenn County Fair, where sheep, goats, rabbits, beef, pigs and chickens are shown and sold. Home Economics and crafts are also represented, and 4-Hers win many ribbons with their projects.
Membership in 4-H is available to any Glenn County youth. Forms and information may be obtained from the Glenn County Cooperative Extension Office at 821 E. South St. in Orland, or by calling (530) 865-1107. To access the Cal 4-H site, click on http:\\fourh.ucdavis.edu.
